Building a Sustainable Closet: Mara Hoffman SS 2018
Mara Hoffman’s Spring Summer 2018 collection is lit.
This collection switched gears from previous lines by putting a focus on high-quality minimally processed fabrics. The prints are more subdued, but the colors are richer. Body-con is out, and midi dresses with draping are in. The change has definitely made me giddy.
I’ve been a big fan of Mara Hoffman for some time now. Not only as a designer, but also as a person with a platform. She is keenly aware of the harms of the fashion industry on a environmental and human level. Mara frequently uses models of varying body types and ethnicities. She was one of the first designers where I actually felt the models had my body type. It’s refreshing to see a high end clothing line, for once, humanize the experience for its customers…and makes them go, “hey she looks like me.” It feels even better knowing that the clothes that make me feel good also does good.
